Automation: Add and Remove Followers for Families

Keep your team in the loop automatically by adding or removing followers on family records as they move through your enrollment process. These automation actions update who gets notified about activity on each family's account.

What are followers?

Followers are staff members who receive notifications when activity happens on a family's record — like new messages, tour bookings, or status changes. This helps your team stay coordinated without manually checking every account.

Step 1: Choose the follower action

When building or editing an automation, add a new action and look in the Parent/Family category. You'll find two options:

  • Add Parent/Family Follower — automatically adds staff members as followers
  • Remove Parent/Family Follower — removes specific followers or clears all followers

Step 2: Add followers to a family

Select the Add Parent/Family Follower action. Then choose which staff members should be added as followers from the dropdown menu.

You can select multiple team members at once. When this action runs, all selected staff will start receiving notifications for that family's activity.

Pro tip: Add your enrollment coordinator as a follower when a family books a tour, or add your billing manager when a family moves to the enrolled stage.

Step 3: Remove followers from a family

Select the Remove Parent/Family Follower action. You have two options:

  • Remove specific followers: Choose individual staff members from the dropdown to stop following this family
  • Remove all followers: Toggle on "Remove all followers" to clear everyone at once

When to use these actions

Here are common scenarios for managing followers automatically:

  • Tour booked: Add your tour guide so they're notified of messages from that family
  • Application submitted: Add your director for approval notifications
  • Enrollment confirmed: Remove the sales team and add billing/admin staff
  • Family withdraws: Remove all followers to keep notification volume manageable
Pro tip: Use these actions in combination with stage changes in your enrollment pipeline to keep the right people informed at each step of the process.
