Overview
By default, when a family has multiple enrollment opportunities (like enrolling two siblings or applying for different programs), only the most recent opportunity enters your automation. This can cause confusion and missed follow-ups.
The "Allow Multiple Opportunities" setting changes this. When enabled, each enrollment opportunity for a family triggers its own separate automation execution, so you can manage each child's enrollment journey independently.
What This Setting Does
Setting Name: Allow Multiple Opportunities
What happens when enabled:
- Each enrollment opportunity associated with a family enters the automation as a separate execution
- Updates to an opportunity won't restart the automation — it continues from its current step using the updated information
- Multiple opportunities for the same family can progress through your automation simultaneously
How to Enable This Feature
- Navigate to Settings in your automation
- Look for the "Allow Multiple Opportunities" toggle at the top of the settings page (it's near the "Allow Re-entry" option)
- Toggle the switch to ON
- Click Save to apply your changes
Real-World Example
Let's say the Martinez family is enrolling two children at your center:
- One opportunity for Sofia Martinez (Toddler Program)
- One opportunity for Carlos Martinez (Preschool Program)
You have an automation that triggers when an enrollment opportunity is updated and sends a text reminder to the parents after 2 days.
With "Allow Multiple Opportunities" OFF (default):
- Sofia's opportunity updates on Monday at 8 AM → Text sent to the Martinez family
- Carlos's opportunity updates on Monday at 12 PM → No text sent (the automation skips because a more recent opportunity exists)
With "Allow Multiple Opportunities" ON:
- Sofia's opportunity updates on Monday at 8 AM → Text sent to the Martinez family
- Carlos's opportunity updates on Monday at 12 PM → Another text sent to the Martinez family
Both enrollment opportunities progress through your automation independently, ensuring no child's enrollment journey is overlooked.
Important Notes
- This setting applies to the entire automation — you can't enable it for some steps and not others
- Updating an opportunity mid-automation won't restart it from the beginning; the automation continues with the updated information
- Consider your text message and email frequency when enabling this feature to avoid overwhelming families with too many communications
