What is a Quality Rating?

Your quality rating shows how parents and families respond to your WhatsApp messages over the past seven days. Meta determines this rating based on feedback from recipients—like when someone blocks your number or reports your messages.

Where to Find Your Quality Rating

Check your quality rating in the Meta WhatsApp Manager under the Phone Numbers tab. Look for the Quality Rating column, which displays three color-coded states:

  • Green (High Quality): Your messages are well-received
  • Yellow (Medium Quality): Your quality needs attention
  • Red (Low Quality): Immediate action required

Maintaining a High quality rating unlocks more messaging features and higher message limits for your center.

Understanding Block Reasons

When parents block your number, they can select a reason. Common reasons include:

  • No longer needed
  • Didn't sign up
  • Spam
  • Offensive messages
  • No reason given

If your rating drops to medium or low, hover over the rating in WhatsApp Manager to see which block reasons you're receiving. This helps you understand what's causing the issues so you can adjust your messaging strategy.

Setting Up Quality Notifications

Stay informed about your phone number's health by subscribing to quality-related updates. You'll receive email and Meta Business Manager notifications when:

  • Your phone number status changes to Flagged (or when Flagged status is removed)
  • Your messaging limits change

Viewing Your Quality History

Click the icon in the Settings column to view your quality rating over the past 30 days. This shows the lowest quality score for each day, helping you identify patterns or specific events that affected your rating.

Phone Number Status Changes

Your phone number can have three different statuses:

Connected

Everything's working normally. You can send outgoing messages within your set messaging limit.

Flagged

This warning status appears when your quality rating drops to Low and you're on track to lose messaging capacity. Here's what happens:

  • You can't upgrade your messaging limit tier while Flagged
  • You have 7 days to improve your quality rating
  • If quality improves to medium or high within 7 days: Status returns to Connected and your messaging limit stays the same
  • If quality doesn't improve within 7 days: Status returns to Connected, but your messaging limit drops to the next tier (for example, from 100,000 to 10,000 messages)

Restricted

This happens when you hit your messaging limit, regardless of quality. While Restricted, you can't send any outgoing messages for 24 hours. You can still respond to messages that parents initiate.

Pro Tip: Set up those email notifications so you catch quality issues early. Waiting until you're Flagged gives you less time to fix the problem.

Messaging Limits Explained

Messaging limits control how many conversations you can start in a rolling 24-hour period. A business-initiated conversation starts when you send the first message to a parent and ends 24 hours later.

Important: These limits only apply to conversations you start. Messages that parents initiate don't count toward your limit.

The Four Messaging Tiers

After completing business verification, centers move through these tiers based on quality:

  1. Tier 1 (Starting point): 1,000 conversations per 24 hours with unique families
  2. Tier 2: 10,000 conversations per 24 hours with unique families
  3. Tier 3: 100,000 conversations per 24 hours with unique families
  4. Tier 4: Unlimited conversations

When you reach your limit, you can start more conversations as active ones end (after their 24-hour window closes).

Best Practices to Maintain High Quality

  • Only message families who've opted in to receive updates from your center
  • Send relevant, timely information (enrollment updates, tour reminders, important announcements)
  • Avoid promotional spam or overly frequent messages
  • Use approved message templates for business-initiated conversations
  • Monitor your quality rating weekly and respond quickly to any drops
Pro Tip: If you notice your quality declining, pause your WhatsApp campaigns and review what messages you've sent recently. Often, a single problematic message template is the culprit.
