Troubleshooting Facebook Ad Tracking

Facebook ads are one of the best ways to reach parents looking for childcare. But if your tracking isn't set up correctly, you're flying blind — wasting budget on ads that don't convert.

This guide walks you through the five most common Facebook ad tracking issues in Enrollio and how to fix them.

What We'll Cover

  • Verify your Facebook ad account integration is active
  • Add UTM tracking in the right place
  • Use unique names for campaigns, ad sets, and ads
  • Handle campaign name changes properly
  • Connect Facebook Lead Forms to the correct page

1. Check Your Facebook Ad Account Integration

First, make sure your Facebook ad account is properly connected to Enrollio with admin permissions.

How to Verify:

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations in your Enrollio account
  2. Confirm your Facebook ad account is listed and active
  3. Verify you have admin permissions on the account

Can't See Your Page?
If your Facebook page isn't showing up in integrations, you may need to grant Enrollio access. You must be a Page admin (or ask one) to assign the proper permissions.

Facebook Permission Requirements

To run ads for your childcare center's Facebook page and Instagram account, you need one of these Page roles:

  • Admin (recommended)
  • Editor
  • Moderator
  • Advertiser
  • Jobs Manager

Facebook ad accounts have three admin permission levels. Make sure the person connecting Enrollio has the appropriate role to manage ads and access reporting data.

2. Add UTM Tracking to the Tracking Field (Not Destination)

This is the most common mistake. Your UTM parameters must go in the Tracking field in Facebook Ads Manager — not the destination URL.

Pro Tip: Adding UTMs directly to your destination URL will break tracking in Enrollio. Always use the dedicated tracking template field.

3. Use Unique Names for Everything

Every campaign, ad set, and individual ad needs a unique name. Duplicate names create duplicate entries in your reporting — making it impossible to know which ad actually brought in a tour request.

❌ What NOT to Do:

Level Name
Campaign Fall Enrollment 2024
Ad Set 1 Preschool Parents
Ad Open House Invitation
Ad Set 2 Infant Care Parents
Ad Open House Invitation

Problem: When a parent named Sarah fills out your tour form, she'll appear in reporting under "Open House Invitation" in both ad sets. You won't know which audience she came from.

✅ Correct Setup:

Level Name
Campaign Fall Enrollment 2024
Ad Set 1 Preschool Parents
Ad Open House - Preschool
Ad Set 2 Infant Care Parents
Ad Open House - Infant Care

Now you can clearly see which audience drove Sarah's tour request.

4. Don't Rename Active Campaigns

Here's a critical limitation: if you change the name of a running campaign, ad set, or ad in Facebook, it won't update the UTM parameters already in use.

What happens: The list view in Enrollio will show the new name, but the tracking data (leads, enrollment opportunities, ROI) will still tie back to the old campaign parameters. Your reporting will be broken.

The Solution:

Instead of renaming, create a new campaign, ad set, or ad with the correct name. Facebook locks UTM parameters when a campaign launches — they can't be changed mid-flight.

Important: If you rename a campaign without creating a new one, Enrollio will continue referencing the original name in attribution data. Your enrollment and revenue reports won't match what you see in Facebook.

5. Select the Correct Facebook Page for Lead Forms

If you're using Facebook Lead Forms to capture tour requests or enrollment inquiries, make sure you're connecting the right Facebook page to Enrollio.

Setup Checklist:

  1. Go to your Facebook Lead Form integration settings
  2. Select the Facebook page that matches your childcare center
  3. Set the form mapping to Active to start collecting leads
  4. Map standard fields (name, email, phone) to your Enrollio parent fields
  5. Map any custom fields (preferred start date, age of child, etc.)

Field Mapping Limitations:

  • ✅ Text fields and custom fields map easily
  • ❌ Radio button custom fields cannot be mapped
  • ❌ Timezone fields cannot be mapped
Pro Tip: Keep your lead forms simple. Ask for name, email, phone, and child's age. You can gather additional details during the tour scheduling call.
