Tag and Mention Profiles in Social Media Posts

When sharing your childcare center's updates on social media, you can tag other profiles using @Mentions. This helps you connect with local partners, recognize staff members, or collaborate with community organizations.

What You Can Do

The Social Planner lets you add @Mentions when posting to Facebook and LinkedIn company pages. For Instagram, TikTok, and Google Business Profile, you can still type mentions — they just won't have auto-suggestions.

When you select multiple social channels for one post, you'll customize each version separately. This ensures your mentions work correctly on each platform.

Why Tagging Matters

  • Boosts engagement: Tagged profiles often share or respond to your posts, increasing your reach to prospective families
  • Builds partnerships: Tag local businesses, schools, or community partners to strengthen relationships
  • Improves visibility: On most platforms, mentions make your content more searchable
Pro Tip: Tag local parent organizations, elementary schools, or community centers to expand your center's visibility beyond your current followers.

Important Notes

  • Tags appear highlighted in blue in your post preview — this confirms the system recognized them
  • Auto-suggestions don't work for Instagram. Type the full @username manually, and make sure the profile you're tagging allows mentions in their settings
  • Mentions aren't available when posting via CSV import or RSS feeds

Pro Tip: When announcing new staff members, tag their professional profiles. When sharing event partnerships, tag the co-hosting organization. These tags often lead to shares that reach new prospective families.

Platform-Specific Behavior

Facebook: Auto-suggestions work for both personal profiles and business pages. Tagged profiles receive notifications.

LinkedIn: You can tag company pages (not personal profiles). Great for B2B partnerships or employer connections.

Instagram: Type @usernames manually. The tagged account must allow mentions in their privacy settings.

TikTok & Google Business Profile: Mentions appear as plain text but still function on the platform.
