Overview
SHAKEN/STIR is a set of protocols that authenticates your caller ID and verifies you're calling from a legitimate phone number. It uses digital certificates to prove you own the number you're calling from, so carriers can trust your calls are genuine.
When enabled, your outbound calls are more likely to display as a "Trusted Call" on parents' phones, which means they're more likely to pick up when you call about tours, enrollment updates, or urgent childcare matters.
Why SHAKEN/STIR Matters for Your Childcare Business
- Boosts call completion and answer rates — parents actually pick up
- Helps prevent caller ID spoofing and fraud
- May display a "Trusted Call" label on outgoing calls
- Doesn't remove existing nuisance labels, but improves trust
Requirements
You'll need an EIN (Employer Identification Number) to register for SHAKEN/STIR. Most childcare centers already have one for tax purposes.
If you don't have an EIN, we recommend registering your number with the Free Call Registry instead.
How to Enable SHAKEN/STIR
If You've Already Registered for A2P SMS
Your phone numbers are automatically enrolled in SHAKEN/STIR. This applies to all new A2P applications submitted after April 23, 2025. Older client accounts are being updated automatically as well.
If You Haven't Registered for A2P SMS
You can manually enable SHAKEN/STIR for your numbers right now:
- Go to Settings in your Enrollio dashboard
- Click Phone Numbers
- Select the number you want to register
- Navigate to the Trust Centre tab
- Follow the prompts to enable SHAKEN/STIR
