When you send text messages to US phone numbers through Enrollio, your message speed (called "throughput") depends on three things: your Brand type, your Campaign type, and your Trust Score. This article explains how these work together and what they mean for your childcare center's text messaging.

Note: T-Mobile also sets daily message limits separate from throughput rates. This means even if you can send messages quickly, there's still a cap on total daily messages to T-Mobile subscribers.

What is Message Throughput?

Message throughput is measured in message segments per second (MPS). Each segment holds up to 160 standard characters. If your text is longer or uses special characters (like emojis), it counts as multiple segments.

In the past, US phone numbers had a standard rate of 1 MPS shared across all carriers. Under the new A2P 10DLC system, your rate depends on your Brand registration, Campaign type, and Trust Score.

What is a Trust Score?

A Trust Score is assigned when you register a Standard Brand with The Campaign Registry (TCR), the organization that manages US carrier registration. When you submit your A2P registration for US messaging, Enrollio sends your information to TCR for review.

Enrollio also submits your Brand for "secondary vetting," which assigns a score from 0 to 100. Higher scores unlock faster message speeds and higher daily limits with US carriers.

The scoring algorithm reviews your business information and assigns your Trust Score. Higher Trust Score = faster messaging.

Important: Sole Proprietor and Low Volume Brands don't go through secondary vetting and don't receive Trust Scores. Their throughput is fixed based on their Campaign type.

Trust Scores are permanent and don't change over time.

Why Would I Have a Low Trust Score?

Low Trust Scores usually happen because of:

  • Data mismatches — Your registration information doesn't match your official business records (like using a different address than your EIN registration)
  • Small business footprint — Newer or smaller childcare centers with less established business presence typically receive lower scores

If you receive a low Trust Score and want to understand why, contact Enrollio support. We'll help identify possible causes and guide you through resubmitting your Brand registration if needed.

How is Throughput Allocated?

Each Campaign you register gets a maximum MPS rate. This rate is shared across:

  • All US/Canada phone numbers assigned to that Campaign
  • All wireless carriers

Whether you send from one number or spread messages across multiple local numbers, the same MPS limit applies.

You also need to consider Account Based Rate Limiting — an upper MPS limit set at your account level across all Campaigns combined.

Example: If your account limit is 100 MPS and you have three Campaigns each approved for 75 MPS, you're still capped at 100 MPS total. You can send messages faster than 100 per second to Enrollio's messaging system, but anything over 100 MPS goes into a queue.

Specific Use Cases (called "Declared" Campaigns by carriers) receive higher MPS rates than "Mixed" or Marketing Campaigns with the same Trust Score.

What About Toll-Free Numbers?

Toll-Free SMS isn't affected by A2P 10DLC throughput changes or Campaign registration requirements. A US Toll-Free number has 3 MPS toward all US and Canada carriers by default. You can request higher throughput for Toll-Free numbers by contacting Enrollio Sales.

What About International Messaging?

Countries outside the United States aren't affected by these A2P 10DLC throughput rules.

Current Throughput Rates

Your Trust Score (for Standard Brands) and Campaign type determine your throughput toward AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. Review the tables below based on your Campaign type.

Declared Use Cases (Single Purpose)

Declared Use Cases are for one specific non-marketing purpose — like appointment reminders, enrollment notifications, or two-factor authentication.

Trust Score Total MPS (Major Networks) AT&T MPS T-Mobile MPS Verizon MPS
75-100 225 75 75 75
50-74 120 40 40 40
1-49 12 4 4 4
0 (Low Volume Standard Brand) 12 4 4 4

Note: Messages to US Cellular are based on your major network throughput, up to 8 MPS maximum. Messages to smaller carriers (less than 5% market share) are limited to 1 MPS per phone number.

Mixed / Marketing Use Cases

Mixed or Marketing Campaigns let you send messages for multiple purposes from the same phone numbers, or send promotional messages about your childcare center.

There's also a "Low Volume Mixed" Campaign option with lower monthly fees but fixed at the lowest throughput tier regardless of Trust Score.

Trust Score / Campaign Type Total MPS (Major Networks) AT&T MPS T-Mobile MPS Verizon MPS
75-100 225 75 75 75
50-74 120 40 40 40
1-49 12 4 4 4
0 (Low Volume Standard Brand) 12 4 4 4
Low Volume Mixed Campaign (any Trust Score) 3.75 1.25 1.25 1.25

Note: Messages to US Cellular are based on your major network throughput, up to 8 MPS maximum. Messages to smaller carriers are limited to 1 MPS per phone number.

Sole Proprietor Use Cases

Sole Proprietor Brands have fixed throughput rates that don't depend on Trust Scores.

Pro Tip: Choose the Campaign type that best matches how you'll use text messaging at your childcare center. If you primarily send reminders and enrollment updates, a Declared Campaign gives you better throughput than a Mixed Campaign with the same Trust Score.
