Understanding Inbound Call Rate Limits

To keep your phone system running smoothly and protect against spam, Enrollio enforces inbound call rate limits on different types of phone numbers. These safeguards prevent system overloads and ensure reliable service for all childcare centers using the platform.

This article explains how rate limits work for IVR-connected numbers, Voice AI-connected numbers, and regular numbers.

1. IVR-Connected Numbers

No restrictions apply. IVR numbers are built to handle high call volumes from parents and families, so they're not subject to inbound call rate limiting.

2. Voice AI-Connected Numbers

Voice AI numbers use automation to handle calls intelligently. Because they can process many calls simultaneously, they have stricter rate controls to maintain system performance.

Violations and Limits

Condition Threshold Result
From a number: >200 calls per minute 1 violation (current call is blocked)
To a number: >200 calls per minute 1 violation (current call is blocked)
Violation cap: >5 violations per hour All inbound calls for your account are blocked

3. Regular Numbers

Standard phone numbers (not connected to IVR or Voice AI) have more conservative limits to prevent misuse and maintain call quality.

Violations and Limits

Condition Threshold Result
From a number: >10 calls per minute 1 violation (current call is blocked)
To a number: >15 calls per minute 1 violation (current call is blocked)
Violation cap: >5 violations per hour All inbound calls for your account are blocked

What Happens When the Violation Cap is Reached?

If your account receives more than 5 violations within an hour, all inbound calls will be permanently blocked for both Voice AI and regular numbers.

To restore access, contact Enrollio support immediately. Our team will review the issue and help get your phone system back online.

Best Practices to Avoid Rate Limits

Follow these tips to ensure uninterrupted phone service for your childcare center:

Use IVR for High Volume

If you expect heavy call traffic during enrollment seasons or open house events, connect your numbers to an IVR system. This removes rate limits entirely.

Distribute Call Volume

Avoid routing all parent calls through a single number. Use multiple phone numbers to balance the load across your staff and locations.

💡 Pro Tip: During peak enrollment periods, set up dedicated phone numbers for tours, waitlist inquiries, and general questions. This distributes call volume naturally and improves response times.
