What Are Association Limits?

Association limits let you control how many records can be linked together between objects in Enrollio. These rules keep your data organized, prevent over-linking, and provide clear visual feedback when limits are reached.

Why Use Association Limits?

  • Prevents over-linking between records
  • Keeps your data structures clean and manageable
  • Reduces confusion with clear notifications when limits are reached

Supported Relationship Types

For Multi-Label Associations:

  • One-to-One (1:1) — Each record can link to only one other record
  • One-to-N — One record can link to up to 1,000 other records (where N ≤ 1000)
  • One-to-Many — One record can link to unlimited other records
  • Many-to-Many — Records can link to each other without restrictions

For Single-Label Parent/Family-to-Parent/Family Associations:

  • One-to-One (1:1)
  • Many-to-Many
  • Custom N-to-N — Define your own relationship limits
Note: Limits are enforced per label and reflected throughout the platform interface.

How to Set Up Association Limits

  1. Go to Settings > Objects
  2. Select either a Custom Object or Parents/Families
  3. Click the Associations tab
  4. Click Create Association or edit an existing one
  5. Choose either a single label or a pair of labels
  6. Under Configure Relationship, select your relationship type (e.g., 1:1, 1:N) and define limits if applicable

Your configured associations will appear in the Associations tab for easy reference.

Example: Tour Coordinator Management

A childcare center wants to ensure each Tour Coordinator manages no more than 30 Tour Requests at a time:

  1. Create a one-to-N relationship from Staff Member to Tour Request
  2. Set the limit as N = 30
  3. When a coordinator reaches this cap, you'll see a clear warning in the interface
  4. No additional tour requests can be assigned until they complete some existing tours

This ensures balanced workloads and prevents any single staff member from being overwhelmed.

What Happens When You Hit the Limit: If you try to associate beyond the allowed count, an error message appears immediately. This helps you maintain clean data structures and stay organized.
