Ringless Voicemail and Voicemail Drops: Setup Guide
Voicemail drops let you deliver a pre-recorded message directly to a parent's voicemail without their phone ever ringing. It's a smart way to follow up on tours, confirm enrollments, or re-engage families—without interrupting their day.
This guide shows you how to set up voicemail drops in Enrollio using automations.
What Are Voicemail Drops?
A voicemail drop (also called ringless voicemail) delivers a pre-recorded message straight to a parent's voicemail inbox—no call, no ring. It's perfect for quick, consistent follow-ups like:
- Tour reminders and confirmations
- Enrollment status updates
- Re-engaging families on your waitlist
- Following up after a missed tour
The message sounds personal, but you can send it at scale.
Key Benefits
No interruption: Parents receive your message without their phone ringing—perfect for busy schedules.
Scale your outreach: Use pre-recorded messages to maintain a personal tone while reaching dozens of families at once.
Faster follow-ups: Messages deliver instantly after key actions like tour bookings, no-shows, or status changes.
Works across common scenarios: Tour confirmations, no-show recovery, waitlist nurturing, and re-engagement campaigns.
Before You Start
Make sure you have:
- A phone number set up in your Enrollio account
- Pre-recorded audio files (MP3 or WAV format, 64kbps)
- Parent consent for automated calls — this is legally required before sending voicemail drops
Legal Note: Voicemail drops fall under TCPA regulations. You must have prior express consent from families before sending automated voicemails. Always follow telemarketing laws in your region.
How to Set Up Voicemail Drops Using Automations
Automations let you send voicemail drops automatically when a family meets certain conditions—like scheduling a tour or missing an appointment. Here's how to build one.
Step 1: Open or Create an Automation
Click Automation in the left navigation menu. Open an existing automation or click + Create Automation → Start from scratch.

Select when you want the voicemail drop to send. Common triggers include:
- Contact Changed — when a family's status updates (e.g., "New Lead" or "Tour Scheduled")
- Appointment Status Changed — after a tour is confirmed or missed
- Form Submitted — right after a parent submits an inquiry
For this example, we'll use Contact Changed.

Click the + button to add an action. Search for and select Assign to User.
Choose a staff member from the dropdown if you want these families routed to someone specific. If no one is assigned, calls will route to your main business number.
Only Apply To Unassigned Contacts: Enable this if you only want to assign families that don't already have an owner.
Click Save Action.

Frequently Asked Questions
My voicemail file isn't working. What should I do?
Your audio file needs to be in MP3 or WAV format at 64kbps or lower. If it's not uploading:
- Go to online-audio-converter.com and upload your file
- Select 64kbps MP3 (the lower the bitrate, the better)
- Download and re-upload to Enrollio
You can also record a new message at rev.com/onlinevoicerecorder.
Are voicemail drops legal?
Yes—as long as you have the parent's consent before sending automated voicemails. Without consent, voicemail drops violate TCPA regulations.
Always get prior express consent from families before adding them to voicemail drop campaigns. Otherwise, you may face fines from the FCC or lawsuits.
Why can't I send more voicemail drops?
Voicemail drop limits ramp up gradually as your account ages:
- Day 1: 100 drops per day
- Day 2: 200 drops per day
- Day 3: 300 drops per day
- Day 7: 700 drops per day
- Day 7 onward: 2,000 drops per day
If you need higher limits, contact our support team.
Do I need extra registration before sending voicemail drops?
No. If you already have a phone number set up in Enrollio and have obtained parent consent, you can start sending voicemail drops right away.
No additional legal registration is required beyond TCPA compliance. However, always confirm you're following local telemarketing laws, as requirements vary by region.
Why do some voicemail drops fail to deliver?
Voicemail drops rely on a carrier-level trick to bypass the ring and go straight to voicemail. This is how all ringless voicemail systems work—and as a result, they deliver successfully about 70% of the time.
Delivery rates depend on the recipient's carrier and phone settings, which are outside Enrollio's control.
Pro Tip: Use voicemail drops as part of a multi-channel follow-up strategy (text + email + voicemail) to maximize your reach.
