Introduction

You have full control over when Enrollio AI engages with each parent or family in your center. From any conversation, you can quickly turn the AI on, off, or set it to pause for a specific time. This gives you the flexibility to step in personally when needed while letting AI handle routine questions the rest of the time.

Why This Matters

Sometimes you want AI to handle tour requests and common questions. Other times—like during a sensitive enrollment discussion or parent concern—you'll want to take over personally. This feature lets you control that on a family-by-family basis.

How It Works:

  • Active: AI responds to all incoming messages from this family
  • Sleep/Snooze: AI is paused temporarily (either by you or automatically when you send a manual message)
  • Inactive: AI stays off until you turn it back on

Turning AI On or Off for a Family

Step 1: Open the Conversation

  1. Go to Conversations in your dashboard
  2. Select the parent or family you want to adjust
  3. Look for the AI status indicator in the message composer—a green icon means AI is currently active
[SCREENSHOT: Conversations tab showing message composer with green AI status icon visible in the top right of the message area]

Step 2: Change the AI Status

  1. Click the status icon
  2. Select Inactive to turn off AI for this family
  3. Optional: Set a timer for when AI should automatically turn back on (useful if you just want to handle the next few messages yourself)
  4. To keep AI off permanently for this family, uncheck the timer option

The status icon will update to show AI is now off for this conversation.

When AI Automatically Pauses

Enrollio AI knows when to step back. It will automatically pause for a family when:

  • You send a manual message (so you can have a personal conversation without AI interrupting)
  • An automation sends a message on your behalf
  • The daily message limit is reached for that conversation

You can adjust these settings in your global AI configuration if you want different behavior.

Pro Tip: Use the sleep timer when a parent asks a complex question you need to research. Set AI to wake up in 2 hours—that gives you time to respond personally, then AI can handle any follow-up questions if you're busy with tours or pickup time.

Important Notes

  • This feature only works when your AI is set to Suggestive or Auto-Pilot mode
  • Family-level settings override your global AI settings—if you mark a family as Inactive, AI won't engage with them even if it's turned on globally
  • While AI is sleeping, incoming messages still come through normally. AI just won't respond until the wake time

Frequently Asked Questions

Does setting a family to Inactive override my global AI settings?

Yes. When you mark a specific family as Inactive, Enrollio AI will not reply to them until you change their status back to Active—even if AI is turned on for everyone else.

What happens to messages while AI is sleeping?

You'll receive all messages as normal. AI simply stays paused until the wake time you set, then it resumes based on your configuration.

Does sending a manual message automatically pause AI?

That depends on your global AI settings. You can configure whether manual messages trigger an automatic sleep period to prevent AI from jumping in while you're having a conversation.

Can I update AI status for multiple families at once?

Not directly. This feature is designed for individual family control. If you need to adjust AI behavior for groups of families based on conditions (like enrollment status or program type), use automations instead.

Why don't I see the status control?

Make sure Enrollio AI is enabled in your settings, an AI assistant is assigned to your messaging channels, and your response mode is set to allow AI replies. If you're still not seeing it, contact support.
