How to Set Up Google Ads Reporting

Google Ads reporting gives you live insights into how your childcare center's digital ad campaigns are performing. When set up correctly, you'll see exactly which ads are bringing in tour requests and enrollment inquiries.

This guide walks you through the essential setup steps to connect Google Ads with Enrollio.

What You'll Need

  • Administrator access to your Google Ads account
  • Your Google Ads account connected in Enrollio
  • About 15 minutes to complete the setup

Step 1: Connect Your Google Ads Account

First, make sure you're connecting with the right Google account in Enrollio.

Important: The Google account you use must have administrator permissions or manager access for your Google Ads account. Without proper permissions, the integration won't work correctly.

Step 2: Enter Your Account IDs

You'll need two specific IDs from Google Ads:

MCC Account ID (if applicable)

If you use a Google Ads Manager Account (also called My Client Centre or MCC) to manage multiple ad accounts, you'll find this ID in the top right corner of your Google Ads dashboard.

Client Account ID

This is your individual Google Ads account number. Find it by clicking the help icon in your Google Ads account.

Step 3: Add the Tracking Template to Your Google Ads Account

This is the most important step. The tracking template tells Google Ads to pass campaign information to Enrollio so you can see which ads are driving your enrollment inquiries.

Where to Add It

You can add tracking at three levels in Google Ads: account, campaign, or ad group. We recommend adding it at the account level — this ensures all your campaigns are tracked automatically.

The Tracking Template

Copy this template exactly as shown:

{lpurl}?utm_source=adwords&utm_medium={adname}&utm_campaign={campaignname}&utm_content={adgroupname}&utm_keyword={keyword}&utm_matchtype={matchtype}&campaign_id={campaignid}&ad_group_id={adgroupid}&ad_id={creative}

How to Add It

  1. Go to your Google Ads account
  2. Click Settings in the left menu
  3. Select Account Settings
  4. Scroll to the Tracking section
  5. Paste the template into the Tracking template field
  6. Click Save

Test Your Setup

After adding the template, run a test in Google Ads. Most campaigns should show that the landing page is found. If you see errors on active campaigns, fix them before continuing.

Pro Tip: The tracking template includes {lpurl} which inserts your final landing page URL. If you remove this parameter, your landing pages will break, so always keep it at the start of the template.

How It Works

When someone clicks your ad, the tracking template adds campaign details to your landing page URL. Here's an example:

Your final URL:
http://yourchildcarecenter.com/tour

After someone clicks your ad, they land on:
http://yourchildcarecenter.com/tour?utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=open_enrollment&utm_campaign=fall_enrollment_2024&utm_content=preschool_banner&utm_keyword=preschool_near_me&utm_matchtype=e&campaign_id=12345&ad_group_id=2394984903&ad_id=93844980940&gclid=84843ewhfb834nedhj4u49

Enrollio captures this information and attributes the inquiry to the correct ad campaign.

Step 4: Add Backup Tracking (Optional but Recommended)

For extra reliability, you can add a backup tracking script to your enrollment pages. This acts as a fail-safe if the URL tracking template fails to capture campaign data.

The script automatically tracks clicks and sends attribution data to Google Analytics and Enrollio.

Important Rules for Campaign Tracking

To keep your reporting accurate, follow these guidelines:

1. Keep Campaign Names Unique

Every campaign, ad set, and individual ad needs a unique name. Don't reuse names across different campaigns.

2. Never Rename Active Campaigns

Once a campaign is running, don't change its name. If you need to change the name, create a new campaign instead.

Warning: If you rename a campaign instead of creating a new one, Enrollio will continue attributing new data to the original campaign name. This happens because Google Ads sends the original name in tracking parameters, which skews your reporting.

3. Use the Objectives Dropdown

In Enrollio's reporting, you'll see an Objectives dropdown. Use this to categorize what you wanted to achieve with each campaign — whether it's tour bookings, waitlist signups, or enrollment inquiries.

Troubleshooting

Landing Pages Not Found

If Google Ads shows errors about landing pages not being found after adding the tracking template, check that:

  • You included {lpurl} at the start of the template
  • Your landing page URLs are working correctly
  • You're using an ampersand (&) to separate multiple parameters

Missing Attribution Data

If campaigns aren't showing up in Enrollio reporting:

  • Verify your Google Ads account is connected with admin permissions
  • Confirm the tracking template is added at the account level
  • Check that you entered the correct MCC and Client Account IDs
  • Allow 24-48 hours for data to start appearing

Next Steps

Once your Google Ads tracking is set up, you can:

  • View which ads are generating the most tour requests
  • Track enrollment inquiries back to specific campaigns
  • Calculate your cost per enrollment
  • Optimize your ad spend based on real enrollment data
