Checking Your Email Delivery Logs

When parents or families aren't receiving emails from your center, Mailgun's logs show you exactly what happened. Here's how to investigate delivery issues step by step.

Access Your Mailgun Logs

  1. Log in to https://app.mailgun.com/app/dashboard
  2. Click Sending in the left navigation
  3. Click Logs
  4. Make sure the correct domain is selected at the top
  5. Click Add Filter
  6. Select Recipient from the dropdown
  7. Paste the email address you're checking
  8. Click Filter

Review the Delivery Status

Once you locate the email in the results:

  1. Click the gear icon ⚙️ on the right side of the email entry
  2. Select Quick view
  3. Review the preview and delivery status

If the status shows "delivered," ask the parent to check their spam folder. If issues persist, contact Mailgun support — the recipient's email provider may be blocking messages.

Common Email Delivery Issues

Not Delivering to Previously Bounced Address

If an email previously bounced (due to a typo or temporary issue), Mailgun won't try sending to that address again until you remove it from the suppression list.

To fix this:

  1. Click Sending → Suppressions
  2. Choose your domain at the top
  3. Search for the recipient's email
  4. Select the email and click the trash icon to remove it from the Bounces tab

Accidentally Unsubscribed

If a parent accidentally clicked "unsubscribe" in a previous email, they won't receive future messages.

To fix this:

  1. Go to Sending → Suppressions
  2. Switch to the Unsubscribes tab
  3. Search for and remove the email address

Unauthenticated Email from Your Custom Domain

This error means your domain's DMARC policy is too strict for Mailgun to send on your behalf.

Solution: Set your DMARC policy to "none" for your custom domain. If you use Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) for email, you can configure DMARC settings here.

Unauthenticated Email from Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL, or Outlook

These providers have strict authentication policies that prevent third-party platforms like Enrollio from sending emails using their domains.

Quick fix: Change your sender email address from a Yahoo/AOL/Hotmail address to either:

  • Your center's custom domain (e.g., director@yourchildcare.com)
  • A Gmail address (e.g., yourname@gmail.com)

You can update your sender email address in your Enrollio email settings.

💡 Pro Tip: Using your center's custom domain (like admin@brightstarspreschool.com) looks more professional and improves email deliverability compared to free email providers.
