Setting Up Email Aliases with Google SMTP
When you use Google or Google Workspace as your email provider in Enrollio, you can set up email aliases to send emails from different addresses within your childcare center — like admissions@, tours@, or billing@.
What Are Email Aliases?
An email alias lets you send emails from alternative addresses (like admissions@yourschool.com) while still using your main Google account's SMTP connection. This is useful when different staff members or departments need to communicate with families using their own email addresses.
Before You Start
Make sure you've already connected your Google or Google Workspace account as your SMTP provider in Enrollio. If you haven't done this yet, check out our guide on Using Google/Gmail/Google Workspace as your SMTP Provider.
Setting Up an Alias in Google Workspace
Step 1: Create the alias in your Google Workspace admin console
- Log in to your Google Workspace Admin Console
- Go to Users and select the account you want to add an alias to
- Click User information > Email aliases
- Click Add an alias and enter the email address (e.g.,
tours@yourschool.com) - Click Save
Step 2: Configure the alias in Gmail
- Log in to the Gmail account that owns the alias
- Click the gear icon and select See all settings
- Go to the Accounts and Import tab
- In the "Send mail as" section, click Add another email address
- Enter the alias name and email address
- Leave "Treat as an alias" checked
- Click Next Step and verify the address
Step 3: Update your sender settings in Enrollio
- In Enrollio, go to Settings > Email Services
- Find your email automation or campaign where you want to use the alias
- In the "From" field, select or enter your alias email address
- Save your changes
Setting Up an Alias in Personal Gmail
Personal Gmail accounts handle aliases differently than Google Workspace. With personal Gmail, you can't create true aliases, but you can add a "Send mail as" address.
- In Gmail, click the gear icon and select See all settings
- Go to Accounts and Import
- In "Send mail as," click Add another email address
- Enter the name and email you want to send from
- Uncheck "Treat as an alias" if this is a separate email account you own
- Complete the verification process Gmail sends to that address
Pro Tip: For professional childcare communications, we recommend using Google Workspace rather than personal Gmail. It gives you better control over multiple staff email addresses and aliases.
Important Notes About Email Masking
When you set up aliases, you're configuring email masking — making emails appear to come from a specific address while using your main SMTP connection.

Troubleshooting
Emails aren't sending from my alias
- Verify the alias is fully set up and verified in Gmail/Google Workspace
- Check that you've added the alias in the "Send mail as" section of Gmail settings
- Make sure the alias email matches exactly in both Google and Enrollio
I see "Authentication failed" errors
- Your SMTP credentials are tied to your main Google account, not the alias
- Ensure your main account's SMTP connection is working in Enrollio first
- Check that "Treat as an alias" is enabled in Gmail for Workspace aliases
