Texting is a powerful tool for dance studios to stay connected with students and parents, but there are some important do’s and don’ts to follow! This guide will help your team master SMS communication using Enrollio (powered by Twilio) while keeping messages effective, compliant, and engaging.
1. Get Permission First!
Before texting anyone, make sure they’ve given explicit consent. This keeps you compliant and builds trust. Avoid purchased contact lists—only message people who have opted in!
Example: "Thanks for joining our VIP text list! We’ll keep you updated on classes and special events. Reply STOP to opt out anytime."
2. Always Provide an Opt-Out
Every recipient should have the option to stop messages. Include “Reply STOP to unsubscribe” in your first text to each person.
3. Clearly Identify Your Studio
Nobody likes mystery messages! Always mention your studio name in your first message to avoid confusion.
Example: "Hi Sarah! This is Dance Elite. Just a reminder—your child’s ballet class is at 5 PM today. See you soon!"
4. Keep It Professional (But Friendly!)
Make messages personal and engaging, but avoid slang, abbreviations, or excessive emojis. Stay friendly yet professional.
Don’t: "Hey u! Ur class 2day @ 5pm. C u there!
"
Do: "Hi Emily! Just a reminder—your jazz class is today at 5 PM. See you soon!"
5. Avoid Spammy Messages
Sending too many messages or using all caps and exclamation points can make your texts feel like spam. Keep it concise and relevant!
Don’t: "DON’T MISS OUT!!!
SIGN UP NOW!!!!"
Do: "Reminder: Our early bird registration ends Friday! Secure your spot today."
6. Timing Matters
Avoid texting too early or too late—nobody wants a 6 AM or 11 PM text! A good rule of thumb is between 9 AM and 7 PM.
7. Follow SMS Guidelines to Avoid Being Blocked
Enrollio enforces a "Ramp-Up Model" for new accounts to prevent spam-like behavior. This means daily text limits will increase over time as your account builds credibility.
8. Monitor Delivery & Responses
Not all texts get delivered. Regularly check message statuses (sent, delivered, failed, or undelivered) to troubleshoot issues.
9. Stick to Approved Content
Some topics are prohibited in SMS marketing, including: Alcohol, tobacco, or firearms
Gambling
Adult content
10. Stay Up to Date!
SMS regulations change, so check in periodically to ensure your studio is always compliant.
